Congratulations to all of our young wrestlers that competed in the 10 and under State Tournament this past weekend in Danville Illinois. 15 wrestlers made the trip to this years event (8 of them were 9 year olds or younger) which were the most wrestlers we have had attend this event. 3 wrestlers made it to the finals and 3 others placed in the top 8 at this event. For the 1st time in our short history Michael Major became the 1st 8 year old from our club to win this event, he dominated by going 4-0 on the weekend and winning by fall in the 1st period to capture the 60lb weight division. Colin Kacena also won his 1st title in this division by also dominating in the finals by beating Joel Muehlenbeck (Arlington Cardinals) 9-0 in the finals and going 4-0 on the weekend. Dominic Hargrove lost a heartbreaker in the finals by losing on a takedown in overtime, he wrestled outstanding and has another year to compete in this event. Gonzalo Camacho placed 4th at his years event, Aidan Scholwin took 6th place, and Janick Schwab placed 7th. Many of our wrestlers were a match away from placing at this event. I’m very excited about this group as we head into next year and have high expectations for this group.

James Pierandozzi (2x champ) was in one of the most exciting finals this weekend and came up just a bit short losing 1-5 to Fabian Lopez in the finals. Jake Mensik also making his 1st trip to Rockford was a memorable one as he went 4-1 on the weekend and had to face Kevin Countryman for the 3rd straight week but lost a close 0-3 match in the finals to come home with runner up honors. Kaleb Thompson after making the trip 4 years in a row and making the podium 4 of those years made the finals by winning a thrilling semifinal match in overtime. He lost a close decision to Vinny Zerban in the finals 0-5. Three more Junior Raiders placed this weekend Jacob Mumm placed 3rd going 5-1 on the weekend, Ashton Breen also placed 3rd going 5-1 (only loss was in the semis 1-2), and Javen Estrada placed 4th going 4-2 on the weekend. I am very proud of our boys that competed in what many would argue as the toughest state tournament in our Nation. As a team we went 44 wins and only 15 losses (76% winning percentage) making us the #1 club in the state with at least 10 wrestlers. Our success is something we should ALL be proud of, parents, coaches, volunteers, grandparents, and of course our wrestlers.
