The Raiders began the season with an impressive showing at one of the toughest youth events in the country. Wrestlers from 39 states make the trip to Tulsa in November and January to compete in the Roller Series. This year was one of the toughest Kick Offs I can remember. 11 Junior Raiders made the trip, 3 made the finals and 2 others can home with All American honors. Michael Major made it to the finals in the 52lb weight class (6 & under) in his 1st trip to Tulsa, he fell behind in the 1st period and could not recover from a 5-0 deficit, he went 3-1 in the tournament and came home with an eagle. Ronald Tucker made it to the finals and lost a close 4-2 match in overtime in the HWT weight class (12& Under), This was Ronald’s 4th Eagle in the past 3 years. Fidel Mayora made it to the finals in the 100lb (12&under) and lost a close match 2-0 to the USA Preseason National Champion, Fidel was challenged for true 2nd and lost a 3-1 decision, Fidel went 3-2 on the weekend and also came home with an eagle. Rounding out the action was Dyaln Burnoski 84lb weight class (12&under) came home with a 5th place finish and lost to the eventual champion in a thrilling overtime match in the semi finals 5-3. Anthony Talaganov placed 6th in the HWT division (12&under). Although 6 others did not place, they battled to the finish and some were a match from getting on the podium. I was very pleased with the effort our boys gave. Go Raiders!

I would like to congratulate the wrestlers who competed in the USA Preseason Nationals event in Iowa this weekend. In what has become one of the toughest kick off events, this year certainly proved that a title was going to be hard earned.Three of our seven wrestlers that made the trip made it to the finals. Leading the way was Aidan Scholwin pulled off a thrilling 7-6 victory and secured the title in the final seconds, this was Aidan “Spider” Scholwins 3rd national title in 2 years. Matt Ramos also made it to the finals and lost a close 0-3 match to Logan Ashton (one of the top kids in the nation), in the finals. Finally Jimmy Pierandozzi made it to the finals in a loaded bracket and lost to the #1 kid in the nation for his age and weight 1-2. I was very proud of the way our boys battled this weekend. Next up ………..Tulsa Kick Off!
